UPDATE: 2 Found Dead at Home of Jennifer Hudson's Mother
Jennifer Hudson's mother and brother have been found dead today in their Chicago home.
Jennifer Hudson is not injured according to her bodyguard before referring all questions to a publicist.
Police sources say that Hudson's mother Darnell Donerson was one of two victims shot and killed, while neighbors told TMZ the other victim was her brother Jason.
Authorities in Chicago say they're investigating the deaths of two people whose bodies were found at a home that's listed under the same name as the mother of Oscar-winning actress and singer, but would not confirm their identities.
One of the victims was a woman in her 50s who was shot in the head and the other was a 29-year-old man who was shot in the chest, according to a spokesman for the Cook County medical examiner's office.
The source said the bodies of a man and woman were discovered by a family member about 3 p.m. in the home in the 7000 block of South Yale Avenue.
Police tape blocks access to the large, white house, where a crowd has quickly gathered outside.
According to public records, the home is owned by Darnell Donerson, Jennifer Hudson's mother. Hudson grew up in Chicago and her mother's name is Darnell Donerson.
A Chicago police spokeswoman also said a 7-year-old child was also reported missing, as is a 1994 Chevrolet Suburban, from that location.
The shooting was believed to be related to a domestic disturbance, however this is preliminary information.
Jennifer Hudson starred in Dream Girls, and received an Oscar for her performance. And received rave reviews for her performance on the American Idol series in 2004. Most recently she appeared in Sex and the City as Carrie's assistant.
Our sympathy goes out to Ms. Hudson and her family.
UPDATE:
Julian King, Hudson's young nephew, who was living at the residence, is the child that has been reported missing. Chicago police confirmed that the child may be in the company of identified suspect William Balfour, a 20 year old African-American male. He is considered to be armed and dangerous.
King may be wearing khaki pants and a tan polo shirt with the number 5 on it; he is 4' 11" feet tall, weighs 130 pounds, has brown eyes and black hair.
Balfour had been living at the residence, police said, and may have had a romantic relationship with Hudson's sister Julia, as vehicles are co-registered to both of them. Police said Balfour is believed to be driving either a white Chevrolet Suburban, 1994 model, license plate X584859, or a green Chrysler Concord, license plate 332K823.
Area 2 Deputy Chief Joseph Patterson said that neighbors reported hearing shots between 8 and 9 Friday morning. Patterson said there was no sign of forced entry.
Mugshot William Balfour:
Balfour had listed Hudson's mother's address as a place of residence within the last year, although they are unsure if he was actually staying at the home. Illinois Department of Corrections website states that Balfour is currently on parole after serving jail time for attempted murder.
UPDATE Friday 9pm EST:
In another turn of events Julia, Jennifer Hudson's sister worked her shift today as a bus driver and has not been seen since.
Police are searching for her now.
An Amber Alert has been issued for Julian King, the missing 7 year old nephew of Jennifer Hudson.
Jennifer Hudson is on her way to Chicago from Miami, Florida.
UPDATE Saturday 2AM EST:
William Balfour is in custody. Julian and Julia still missing. Suspect not cooperating with police.
There is some specualative conversation going on that this was a dispute about a car. Details are still sketchy. Yet evidently Julia's car that was registered to both her and William Balfour was sold without her knowledge. And there may have been an attempt to get it back.
This story will continue as it develops.
